Sony Pictures Int’l Pacts With Producers Eduardo Cisneros & Jason Shuman

Sony Pictures International Productions has signed a multi-picture development deal with Mexico and Los Angeles based producers Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman to write and produce three new feature films with the studio. The partnership furthers a strategy implemented by Sony Pictures to broaden its global presence and its support of local-language productions which began in earnest when Sanford Panitch arrived on the scene from 20th Century Fox last year.

Cisneros and Shuman started working together in 2014 to become the writing/producing team of Cisneros & Shuman. Among the projects they created have been the FOX feature comedy Upgrade and the 20th Television/FBC pilot Star-Crossed. Cisneros is still involved with Derbez in 3Pas Entertainment.

“It is an ongoing priority for Sony Pictures International Productions to serve our Spanish-speaking audiences in Latin America and here in the United States,” said Laine Kline, EVP Business Affairs and Operations in a statement. “Eduardo and Jason have an exceptional track record for capturing these important communities and beyond.”

Cisneros has been working as a writer and producer in the Latin American film industry for some time. He was the associate producer on Eugenio Derbez’s Instructions Not Included, which was released by Lionsgate in the U.S., grossed over $100M in worldwide box office. He is also the co-creator of the TV comedy series Familia P. Luche and XHDRBZ.

Cisneros was one the founding members of 3Pas Studios, where he’s been working with Derbez on a number of feature and TV projects, including Derbez’s follow up to Instructions, a remake of the 2011 Argentine movie Un Cuento Chino.

As part of an overall deal with Universal TV, Cisneros teamed with Emmy nominee Aseem Batra (Not Safe for Work, Scrubs) and developed a single-camera comedy Don’t Judge Me for ABC.

Shuman has over 20 produced films to his credits, such as Role Models, Lone Survivor (where he was one of umpteen executive producers), and the upcoming Rebel In The Rye. Cisneros is represented by Valor Entertainment Group, WME, and Ziffren Brittenham. Shuman is represented by CAA and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.

Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) is the local language production and distribution arm of Sony Pictures. Its latest Mexican film, El Jeremías — a family comedy directed by Anwar Safa and produced by Monica Lozano, who produced Instructions Not Included — will have a limited theatrical release in the U.S. today, October 21, and then in Mexico on October 28.
