29 May – The speedy hedgehog is racing to the big screen again! Following the success of its theatrical release earlier this year, "Sonic the Hedgehog" will be getting a follow-up movie.

Just a few hours ago, director Jeff Fowler tweeted Variety's report regarding Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy starting development on the sequel.

"Round two with the blue!" The director captioned his post, confirming the fact that he will return to helm the second movie. Also returning with him are Pat Casey and Josh Miller, who will be penning the script one again.

So far, there's no confirmation yet on whether any of the original cast will be returning for the sequel, since the project is still in early development.

In "Sonic the Hedgehog", Ben Schwartz voiced the titular speedster who befriended a sheriff, Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) and worked together with him to take down the mad scientist, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).

Released in cinemas back in February, the live-action/animated movie garnered a worldwide box office collection of USD306.8 million, more than making back its USD81-95 million budget. It also made an early release on digital platforms at the end of March, following the global closure of cinemas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
