Sofia Richie has credited meditation and Reiki for helping her overcome her "zero-to-a-hundred panic attacks".
For the April 2020 issue of U.S. Cosmopolitan magazine, the model/social media influencer opened up on the topic of mental health, noting that she has long suffered from "severe anxiety".
But while doctors advised her to try prescription drugs, she refused, and instead opted to begin investigating other ways she could help herself without medication.
"I read a lot of books, and once I figured out what I was doing to myself, I learned how to control it," the 21-year-old explained. "I would convince myself that I was panicking or that I wasn't comfortable, and once I realised that I was doing that to myself and nothing was actually wrong with me, I was totally fine."
Accordingly, Sofia has found practicing meditation and meeting with a Reiki expert to be very beneficial for her wellbeing. Reiki is an alternative therapy that involves the passing of energy from the practitioner to the patient via their palms.
Although the star, who is dating TV personality Scott Disick, still occasionally has that "oh my God, I'm about to freak out" feeling, prompted by "stupid things, like not having a water bottle in the car or getting stuck in traffic", she now has the tools to help keep herself from spiralling.
"I know how to be like, Calm down, you're here. There's nothing to panic about," she added.
Elsewhere in the chat, Sofia shared how she is hoping to continue bringing awareness to mental health issues while also pursuing her dreams of breaking into Hollywood as an actress.
