SNL Vet (and U.S. Senator) Al Franken Gives Joke-Filled DNC Speech: Grade It!

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) didn’t shy away from science in his primetime speech at Night One of the Democratic National Convention.

“An 8-year-old kid can teach a 4-year-old kid how to use a microwave oven,” the former Saturday Night Live star declared as “scientific” fact, while kiddingly telling attendees they should “ignore” their families and their jobs to hit the campaign trail on behalf of Hillary Clinton.

But the bulk of Franken’s zingers were directed at Clinton’s Republican rival, Donald Trump — in particular his failed, for-profit education company, Trump University.

Below, a rundown of Franken’s most pointed zingers:

* “I’m Al Franken, Minnesotan, Senator, and world reknown expert on right-wing megalomaniacs: Rush Limbaugh. Bill O’Reilly. And now Donald Trump.”

* “Did you know that the Trump University School of Ripping People Off is ranked second in the nation — right behind Bernie Madoff University?”

* “[Trump University] is also about learning directly from ‘success experts’ like Scott Baio, Mike Tyson and, of course, a life-sized cutout of Mr. Trump himself.”

* Franken noted the Trump University Library is “located on a shelf in a closet on the third floor,” before finally turning serious, praising Clinton for being the “smartest” and “toughest” person he’s ever met, and then stressing the importance of every single ballot. Franken then noted his margin of victory the first time he ran for U.S. Senate: 312 votes.
