Smash Mouth Seems to Be Forgetting That Travis Barker Had a Reality Show Before the Kardashians

I will proudly argue any day that Travis Barker is one of the greatest drummers of all time. His chaotic, maximalist style, brought true depth to Blink-182, a band that was otherwise brilliantly simplistic pop-punk power chords. If you don't believe me, listen to his technical and complex beat on "Anthem Part II" or the groove he finds on "The Fallen Interlude." But, even in the years after Blink-182's heyday, Barker has continued to expand his musical influence to everything from hip-hop to pop to metal and punk. It's not just music either, from 2005 to 2006 Barker even had a short-lived MTV reality show called Meet the Barkers. And in recent years, he might be just as famous as he was in the Blink-182 days for his rap/rock crossovers with Trippie Redd and Machine Gun Kelly (in fact, 2019's "I Think I'm Okay" has more streams than 2001's "First Date" on Spotify.).

What I'm saying is, Barker has remained pretty damn popular for more than two decades. And yet, noted '90s band Smash Mouth is shocked to see Barker in the news because of his new relationship with Kourtney Kardashian.

Smash Mouth tweeted on Mother's Day: "not used to Travis Barker having a full time publcist(Kardashians) trying to keep him in the 24hour news cycle. Glad you got Kourtney a "lavish gift" for mothers day. lol"

Hey, Smash Mouth, just a reminder that Barker actually had a reality show a full two years before the Kardashians.

Why you mad, Smash Mouth? Is it because Barker said you were "a little disrespectful" for playing a large concert in the middle of a pandemic?

In a response to Cosmopolitan's Mehera Bonner, Smash Mouth tweeted that "No beef with Travis. We just think it's funny seeing him get caught up in the Kardashian 24hour hype machine. It's just odd and we're sure he thinks so too."

I'm glad things are fine between Smash Mouth and Travis Barker. For that I can sleep easy. But let's just not forget the drummer was famous long before the Kardashians.
