So, plants. People seem to be really amped about them. It probably has something to do with not wanting to feel hermetically sealed off from the outdoors. Most "plant people," or "sorta-plant people," have moved past the simple terracotta pot. Nothing against the terracotta pot, but it showcases about as much personality as a beige hand towel. No, the new frontier in plant cultivation is plant display: plants that whimsically hang from twine from the ceiling, plants that climb up walls on ladders or floating shelves, plants that live in painstakingly hand-painted ceramic. Or, in a real refined upgrade, plants that nest in a handsome, smart, brass-plated growhouse from Modern Sprout.

You can grow pretty much anything you damn well please, anywhere.

Are you a gardener? Do you want to be? Great. Now, all you've got to do is pick what you want to be the gardener of. This Growhouse is ideal for kitchen herbs; set it next to the microwave and let the basil go wild. It will also nurture the succulents—i.e. leave them mostly alone—that bring desert chicness to your home office. You could transplant a nice monstera or philodendron or lavender seedling into it, or all three, then hang the planter on a wall to display them. All you need to do is first build your soil bed, then fill it with life. You'll have greenery spilling out the sides, striking a lovely contrast with the brushed brass box, in however long it takes such greenery to grow.

It gives you just the right amount of control.

Okay, there's a bit more to it. This is a smart growhouse, meaning it has an app. Pairing the growhouse with the app is not the most seamless of experiences, but once you figure it out, that app allows you to set timers and intensities. Timers and intensities for what? For the LED lights embedded in the top of the growhouse that get all that chlorophyll churning so your plants don't have to live next to windows with patchy sunlight at best. There are three light levels—partial shade, partial sun, and full sun—so you'll have to know what cycle will suit your plantlife. You'll also want to pair the cycle, so to speak, with your own schedule, so the growhouse isn't blasting full sun at 3 a.m. in your bedroom, or worse, at 8 p.m. in the living room just as you've settled down to finally watch Dune. And then, you'll need to be on top of watering. All said, that's enough control to make you a gardener, with a nice little assist from smart tech.

The Modern Sprout ecosystem is vast.

As you might have noticed, Modern Sprout did a hell of a nice job designing this growhouse. It's modern, but not in that "every kitchen on HGTV has this thing" way. It's luxe, but useful, too. It has character. Most of Modern Sprout's products are like this, adding much-needed design elements where indoor hydroponic gardens, for example, lack them. So you might find yourself hooked. Which is fine. You know what they say about plants: You can never buy just one. So you'll need the growing frames, houses, and planters all the more. By the way, this Modern Sprout growhouse also makes one hell of a gift to someone who's looking to extend their own plant ecosystem.
