Skyscanner reveals the best value destinations for 2020
One of the best things about living in the UK is being able to pop to another country for the weekend.
Fancy a French baguette? Hop on the Eurostar. Need some winter sun? A weekend in Seville is just a flight away.
And weekend getaways don’t need to be costly – which is why Skyscanner has revealed its most affordable destinations for 2020.
Sam Ayles from the flight booking app says: “When looking back over our data we found a number of cities which are seeing phenomenal price drops, with Bratislava leading the way with a staggering 71 per cent drop in average flight prices, that’s a saving of over £1,200 for a family of four.”

1. Bratislava, Slovakia
Drop in flight price: 71 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January.
Best kept secret: a bar called Mark Twain, housed in an old boat on the river. Head down at sunset for beers.
2. Eindhoven, Netherlands
Drop in flight price: 62 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January.
Best kept secret: Van Gogh lived and worked for a few years in nearby Nuenen, also named Van Gogh Village. Walk in his footsteps and see the real-life locations he painted between 1883 and 1885.
3. Jersey, United Kingdom
Drop in flight price: 48 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January, April, May, September and October.
Best kept secret: watch the sunrise over the French coastline from one of the east bays.
4. Tenerife, Spain
Drop in flight price: 44 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January.
Best kept secret: Carnival – it’s considered the world’s second largest after Rio’s. Held every February, you’ll find parties across the island.
5. Malaga, Spain
Drop in flight price: 44 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January, April and October.
Best kept secret: the Soho art district, where impressive street murals cover the walls.
6. Düsseldorf, Germany

Most affordable time to visit: February.
Best kept secret: the Julia Stock Collection, one of the world’s most comprehensive private collections of time-based art, spanning video, film, performance, sound and virtual reality.
7. Wroclaw, Poland
Drop in flight price: 42 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January.
Best kept secret: dwarfs. There are over 400 little bronze statues around the city. Some are drinking beer, reading and riding pigeons, while others are firefighting and digging up the road.
8. Split, Croatia
Drop in flight price: 42 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: October.
Best kept secret: eat in Bokeria Kitchen & Wine Bar, an old hardware store serving up stunning food.
9. Shannon, Ireland
Drop in flight price: 40 per cent.
Most affordable time to visit: January.
Best kept secret: if golf’s your game, choose from crackers like Woodstock, East Clare and Portumna.
10. Frankfurt, Germany
