Singers, record labels respect decision to cancel Ultimate Song Chart Awards

6 Dec– Record labels and artistes alike recently expressed their thoughts about having another music awards cancelled, saying that they will respect the decision made by Commercial Radio (CRHK) to not hold the Ultimate Song Chart Awards this year.

As reported on Mingpao, a spokesperson of the Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) recently responded to the statement released by CRHK, saying that they understand the decision made by the station.

"We will look forward to their new form of honouring the winners. Our singers will continue to make good music," the rep said.

Ms. Hua, the manager of Hong Kong idol group MIRROR and its solo member Keung Show, admitted that both of her artistes were already prepared to participate in the ceremony before the announcement was made. It is noted that both MIRROR and Keung Show have their songs listed on the CRHK charts.

"It came as a surprise to us, but we will respect the decision," she said.

As for Charmaine Fong, one of the singers said to have a chance to win Best Female Singer at this year's event, the singer said that it was disappointing that performers will not be able to gather like they would do every year.

"But I believe that for all of us, we do not make music to win awards. The awards are just the icing on the cake. It is more important that our songs resonate and touch fans. I hope everybody will continue to support Hong Kong singers and Cantonese songs," she said.
