We’re still not over the sad passing of Carrie Fisher and her mom, Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds, but hearing sweet stories about them shows just how much they were loved. Take, for example, this adorable story by British singer songwriter James Blunt, who was a friend of Fisher.

Blunt was speaking to the The Sunday Times, when he told how he stayed at Carrie Fisher’s house while he was recording his debut album, Back to Bedlam.

“My first album was called ‘Back to Bedlam’ because I lived in a madhouse with her. She put a cardboard cutout of herself as Leia outside my room, with her date of birth and date of death on her forehead,” Blunt recalled. ““I’m trying to remember what the date was, because it was around now – and I remember thinking it was too soon. She went out with a bang, as she was back in movies. Maybe it was a great time to go.”

James Blunt told how Carrie Fisher had invited him to write the album at her California house, and that he wrote one of his biggest selling singles, “Goodbye My Lover,” on the late actor’s piano. He also told how Debbie Reynolds avoided him unless she was in a full face of makeup.

Blunt, who recently became a father, told how he’d made Fisher the godmother to his son, and was devastated that they’d never get the chance to become acquainted.

“The saddest thing is that my son will never get to know someone I thought was the most special person. Fisher was my American mother, and a real inspiration,” he said.

Carrie Fisher sadly passed away in December of last year from complications following a heart attack. The actor’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, then died just one day after her daughter’s death. Before both their passing, the pair had been involved in a touching documentary with HBO about their relationship and the lives of two of Hollywood’s most iconic women.
