The bar Manhattan at Regent Singapore Hotel has been named one of the world’s top 10 bars, and the best bar in Asia, in an annual ranking of drinking spots.

Manhattan is ranked number seven in the list of the World’s 50 Best Bars, which is voted upon by more than 500 drinks experts from across the globe.

The bar topped the list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars, followed by runners-up Speak Low of Shanghai and High Five of Tokyo. 12 other bars in Singapore also made it onto the list of Asia’s top bars, including 28 HongKong Street and Operation Dagger.

The drinking guide says of Manhattan: “From the second you enter the supremely grand surroundings, impeccably furnished with leather and heavy drapes, the first thing that strikes you is the sense of destination about the place.

“Here is an ‘American bar’ that does everything well. Classics lie at its heart, but dig into the menu, which reads like a history lesson dating back to the 1520s, and you see true inspiration too.”

The guide also says what “truly captures the attention” at Manhattan is the Rick House, which holds dozens of oak barrels containing ageing spirits, bitters and cocktails. Manhattan was ranked number 11 among the world’s best bars in 2016.
