It might be the 21st century, but in some quarters, the stigma surrounding Singaporeans with tattoos still exist. Fortunately, the upcoming Singapore Ink Show wants to change just that.

To be held from 21 to 23 April at the Suntec Convention Centre, the inaugural tattoo convention aims to eradicate the unspoken stigma against body art by providing a fresh perspective on Singapore’s tattoo culture.

“We hope to improve the image of tattoos in Singapore, to show that tattoos are not as seedy as people think and that people with tattoos are just like everyone else,” said organiser Sean Oh, 37.

The Singapore Ink Show 2017 will feature a charity auction for hand-drawn artworks, with all proceeds going to the Singapore Red Cross.

With that mission in mind, the Singapore Ink Show is teaming up with the Singapore Red Cross to host two charity drives at the three-day event, one of it being an auction for hand-drawn artworks by guest tattoo artists (23 April), while another is the sale of temporary tattoos. All proceeds goes to Red Cross.

Visitors can also expect to rub shoulders with over 140 renowned local and international tattoo artists such as Ael Lim (Singapore), Nikko Hurtado (USA), Kinki Ryusaki (Malaysia) and Jee Sayalero (Spain), who will be available for tattoo services. While walk-in tattoo appointments are accepted, visitors are encouraged to book their slots with their preferred tattooists in advance to avoid disappointment.

Local and international tattooists will vye for top spots in various categories in the Singapore Ink Show's competitions.
