Twenty days after allegations of sexual harassment against Harvey Weinstein were made public by the New York Times on 5 October, one Singaporean actress has spoken up about her encounter with the disgraced Hollywood movie mogul.

According to an account published on local website The Pride on Tuesday (25 October), the 30-year-old had met Weinstein at the 5th Asian Film Awards back in 2011, which was held in Hong Kong. The post said that the brief encounter had taken place after Tan took a group photo with Weinstein along with her friends, actor Andrew Ng and actress Riely Alecia Saville.

Weinstein, after initially walking away, later stopped her to ask if she was an actress, to which she replied “yes”. Tan claimed that Weinstein had then invited her to his hotel room to go through “a couple of scripts”. She refused the invitation.

“Do you know who I am? Do you know I can make you very famous?” Weinstein reportedly told Tan, who replied that she didn’t “want to be famous like this”.

American-Chinese actor Ng, who had also witnessed the incident, said Weinstein was “wielding his power blatantly” and “pretty explicit”. “I was shocked and disgusted. He was sure of himself and knew just how powerful he was. But Caitanya stood her ground,” Ng was quoted as saying.

Tan currently plays army captain Goh Yilin in local television series Tanglin.
