Singapore hawker franchise giving out food vouchers to those wanting to quit smoking

SINGAPORE — Two halal-certified hawker franchises, OK Chicken Rice and Humfull Prawn Laksa, are offering free discount voucher books to smokers who pledge to quit smoking starting from this month.

This comes after Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong announced on Tuesday (14 February) during his budget speech that the tobacco tax would be raised by 15 per cent in an effort to deter tobacco consumption.

Discount coupons are offered to smokers who wish to quit

Daniel Tan Boon Huat, managing director of OK Chicken Rice and Humfull Prawn Laksa, told Yahoo News Singapore that interested individuals simply have to visit any of their outlets to register by scanning a QR code and completing a form.

After that, his team will contact them and verify their addresses, and will mail the vouchers directly to them.

They will receive 10 vouchers worth $3 each (five for OK Chicken Rice and five for Humful Prawn Laksa). No minimum purchase is required, but they can use only one voucher at a time, and only for dine-ins.

And after six months, the hawkers will contact the participants yet again, and if they succeed, the hawkers will reward them with another discount voucher booklet.
