Singapore’s first 50-metre bungy tower to open in August 2017

Renowned New Zealand thrill-seeker and entrepreneur A.J. Hackett, 58, is launching Singapore’s first bungy attraction in Sentosa and announced on Saturday (27 May) that the 50-metre tower is nearing completion. During a media preview of AJ Hackett Sentosa on Saturday morning, the entrepreneur himself volunteered to jump off the island’s first bungy tower, after six years in the making. AJ Hackett Sentosa is slated to make its official Singapore debut in August. Hackett also revealed that they have received many queries from people hoping to be the first bungy jumpers in Singapore. To this, the company will be running a pre-opening online auction from 27 May to 30 July, 11.59pm, to give everyone an opportunity to be one of the first to take the plunge from the bungy tower. “We’ve had a lot of people enquire about being one of the first and thought that a fair way to do this is to create an auction where everyone can compete against each other. It should be a lot of fun!” said Hackett. Hackett is known for commercialising the extreme sport and building the world’s first commercial public bungy on the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge in Queenstown, New Zealand. He also made headlines in 1987 when he bungy-jumped off the Eiffel Tower in Paris and was subsequently jailed for his act. Today, AJ Hackett Bungy has made its mark in several countries across the globe, including the US, Germany, Russia and Indonesia. Follow Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore on Facebook.
