Singapore Design Week to take over Holland Village in March
The Singapore Design Week will be heading to Holland Village next month, marking the event’s first appearance in the neighbourhood.
Running from 10 to 18 March 2018, District Design Dialogue Holland Village (DDDHV) will be an experiential platform inviting people to realise and engage in design within and beyond their everyday environment.
This debut edition is organised by creative agency HJGHER, lifestyle consultancy Est. and media network Underscore.
Visitors can expect 10 terrace house take-overs in Chip Bee Gardens, which will feature design installations, retail pop-up concepts, panel talks, workshops, F&B and private dinners.
A closed-street block party will launch the 10-day event, with highlights including the popular Camp Kilo Charcoal Club and a pig-on-a-spit barbecue along Jalan Kelabu Asap, with free coffee from Allpress by the Monocle lifestyle store.
Writers and poets from local literary non-profit group Sing Lit Station will also take over a house as writers-in-residence at The Library. Visitors will be invited to start conversations with these writers, watch them at work, or pick up a design journal from the pop-up Basheer Graphics bookstore helmed by the writers-in-residence.
There will also be a live “ask-me-anything'” sessions with creative personalities such as Sam Lo, also known as the Sticker Lady, and Steve Lawler, from studio and gallery Kult.
Visitors can look forward to food kiosks, workshops and private dinners from Kabuke, Shermay’s Singapore Fine Foods, and Wine RVLT at The Kitchen.
Retail pop-ups will include lifestyle brands, creative and craft workshops at The Lounge, anger therapy by Fragment Room as well as a pop-up tattoo studio by Vagabond Ink. Accompanying them will be homegrown fashion labels, some of which will be presenting pop-up retail concepts for the first time in Singapore.
There is fun for the whole family, too, with play spaces along with coding and craft workshops for children at The Playground.
Art and music will also make an appearance with intimate acoustic performances, a music line-up by DJ Zig Zach and an immersive hyper-colour giant walk-in wardrobe installation at House of Eyeyah! by artists Steve Lawler and Tanya Wilson.
