Singaporean actress-turned-radio DJ Melody Chen has come a long way since starring in “The Teenage Textbook Movie” back in the ’90s.

Over the weekend, the “newly-minted” 40-year-old celebrated her birthday weekend with a photoshoot together with husband and actor Randall Tan, as well as her prematurely-born twin babies – Reuben Michael Tan and Maegan Riley Tan.

The mini-photoshoot took place at Singapore General Hospital and saw Chen and Tan posing with their adorable twins against a colourful backdrop. In an Instagram post published on Saturday (4 November), Chen thanked the staff at the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for arranging it.

“Many thanks to the lovely nurses at SGH’s NICU for arranging a surprise photoshoot together with the twins for my birthday last night. My heart was bursting with joy to finally hold them close in my arms. Randall and I can’t wait for them to come home soon!” said Chen in the post. The couple’s twins were born premature.

The new mother, who went through an emergency C-section surgery, briefly shared her parenting experience in the post, mentioning that she had a “harrowing start”.

“We are extremely thankful for all the love and prayers for the twinsies and we are definitely keeping the faith that all will be well,” she added.

She also took the chance to shed light on Prematurity Awareness Month, which takes place in November. To all premature babies and their parents coping in their own individual parenthood journeys, Chen wished them love and called them “God’s angels”.

Her husband also shared his excitement on Instagram, saying, “These two bundles of joy decided to give daddy a heart attack when they decided that enough is enough and come out to meet everyone.”

According to media reports, the pregnancy came as a surprise for the married couple of nine years. Chen had experienced two miscarriages and a failed IVF prior to the successful birth.
