Hidden away at an HDB estate in Jurong East, Lee’s Confectionery is the neighborhood’s hip new dessert parlor. It’s not exactly easily accessible for non-Westies — get off at the Chinese Garden station and you’ll still have to trudge through 10 minutes of streets before you find the heartland joint — but the array of elegant, intricate-looking desserts in a bare, white-washed space may be motivation enough for you to check it out.
Named after owner-baker Lee Yin Quan, the place is a result of his toils after graduating with a diploma in French pastry from French culinary institute Ferrandi Paris and working with famous patissiers in the country. Just as minimal as its decor is the menu of bakes that are all made fresh each day and proudly showcased in a glass display. From tarts to cakes to pastries, the classy creations are meticulously put together, going for $7 to $8 each.
Noteworthy ones include Jiāo, banana sponge with banana compote, mascarpone, oatmeal crust, and white chocolate; Puff, a kaya toast-like puff pastry with a generous layer of creamy Earl Grey-infused kaya in the center; and Puck, a dark chocolate mousse item likely made to shield the place against chocoholics who would otherwise revolt at a chocolate-less dessert cafe (we kid — it’s just one of those easy, reliable picks).
A selection of Ette Tea brews in flavors like lychee oolong and pandan Earl Grey are available to pair with your sweets, as well as caffeine with beans roasted by Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee.
