Enter this surprising tool: Adult colouring books. Researchers at the University of Otago in New Zealand found that colouring-in for as little as 10 minutes a day, could yield better mental health. The study, published in the Creativity Research Journal, found that colouring could potentially be used as an accessible and cheap self-help tool to manage some symptoms of poor mental health. Follow up studies done by researchers at the International Islamic University Islamabad have also found that colouring in mandalas specifically was able to help participants decrease both state anxiety and trait anxiety in just 30 minutes.
