You don’t have to shell out big bucks to curate a versatile and elegant capsule wardrobe if you know where to look.

A few years ago, I pared down my wardrobe to make getting dressed easier and faster. And instead of stuffing my closet with dozens of pieces a year, I maintain this minimal approach by purchasing a select number of items a couple of times a year. Thankfully, I’m able to use my job as Real Simple’s shopping editor to research and find the best items, including these versatile pieces from Amazon’s fashion department that I’m eyeing for fall.

Sweater season is upon us, and I usually invest in one or two every fall, knowing that I’ll live in them in the months to come. Last year, I purchased a simple white sweater with black stripes that I wore so much, I’m investing in another similar design: Zesica’s crew neck ribbed pullover sweater.

The marked down piece is simple, but striking thanks to its bold, contrasting stripes and colors. Its polished look makes it a great choice for the office while the oversized fit and soft material make it comfortable enough for lounging, so I know I’ll be reaching for it often.

When I need to get dressed extra fast, I usually reach for a one-piece outfit, like this Btfbm maxi wrap dress. I’ll be able to pair this with some simple jewelry and a variety of shoes, like boots, sneakers, or flats, and I’ll be ready to head out the door in minutes.

This design comes with a self-tying belt that allows the wearer to adjust it to create a looser silhouette or a more cinched in look. It also features an asymmetrical hemline and textured Swiss dot fabric that both add interest. And its fairly simple design makes it easy to dress up or down, ensuring that I can wear this out with friends, to the office, or even a wedding.

And while I tend to gravitate towards dresses, I’m also investing in Baleaf’s stretchy bootcut trouser, which caught my eye. Baleaf, a brand that’s best known for its activewear, designed these office-ready slacks that feel as comfortable as yoga pants. The spandex trousers feature real pockets and a belt loop, giving them a dressed up look—but the material feels just like leggings. And since they come in two inseam sizes to accommodate shoppers in a range of heights, I’m confident that these won’t be too short for me.
