Shia LaBeouf Reveals Suicide Squad Offer Was Vetoed By Warner Bros

‘Transformers’ star Shia LaBeouf was offered a role in Warner Bros’ DC supervillain team-up movie 'Suicide Squad’ before the studio vetoed any potential casting.

This is all according to the man himself, who also revealed a little about changes to the script after Will Smith was cast as Deadshot.

As part of an extensive profile for Variety, the now-sober actor revealed he was offered the role of Lieutenant GQ Edwards, which eventually went to Scott Eastwood.

“The character was different initially,” LaBeouf said. “Then Will [Smith] came in, and the script changed a bit. That character and Tom [Hardy’s] character [eventually played by Joel Kinnaman] got written down to build Will up.”

I don’t think Warner Bros. wanted me. I went in to meet, and they were like, ‘Nah, you’re crazy. You’re a good actor, but not this one.’ It was a big investment for them.”

LaBeouf went from famous to infamous in recent years after a spate of arrests and controversies relating to his performance art projects and allegations of plagerism.

LaBeouf had previously worked with Ayer on 'Fury’, the World War 2 movie the director made before moving on to the commericially-successful but critically-ill-fated flick.

The character LaBeouf was offered ended up being a minor one in the final film, so hiring him would have been a waste of money at the very least.

If Warner Bros were hoping to avoid controversy though, they got more than their share thanks to Jared Leto, who went method for his portrayal of the Joker.
