The Shazam! sequel will be subtitled Fury of the Gods, with the film’s cast revealing the moniker during the movie’s DC FanDome panel.

Zachary Levi opened the panel alone, explaining that he was unlikely to be able to match the exclusive announcements and trailers of other movies.

David F. Sandberg’s sequel to the 2019 hit is not due for more than two years, leaving Levi with very little on offer to tease fans.

He was joined, though, by his young co-stars from the first film and 11-year-old Faithe Herman offered to draw a poster for the movie — revealing the title at the bottom.

The cast and Sandberg were joined at the panel by the comedian Sinbad, in a nod to the fact many people recall him playing a genie in a 1990s film called Shazaam — but it never existed.

The non-existent movie is a prominent example of the Mandela Effect, in which multiple people appear to share the same false memories.

One common theory for the Shazaam mix-up is that people are simply misremembering the 1996 comedy Kazaam, in which Shaquille O'Neal played a genie.

The comedian joked that he was “relegated to the false memories of an entire generation” and now wants a role in Shazam! 2.

He was given short shrift by director Sandberg, who didn’t seem keen to include the comic in the Warner Bros sequel.

There are no further details currently available about the Shazam! sequel and it has been suggested that the first film’s mid-credit scene — which introduced evil worm Mr Mind — may not even play into the follow-up.

It’s also possible that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam — a common foe for Shazam — may appear in the sequel, with his own film currently due to arrive in 2021.

Black Adam was one of several movies teased at DC FanDome, with new trailers unveiled for Wonder Woman 1984 and the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

Elsewhere, James Wan offered new details of the Aquaman sequel and it was revealed that Michael Keaton’s Batman designed the Flash’s new suit for time-bending movie Flashpoint.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is due to be released in November 2022.
