SINGAPORE — Former Mediacorp actress and host Sharon Au on Wednesday (11 May) took to Instagram to break some bad news: her apartment in France had been recently burglarised, leaving her with "nothing".

A silver lining? Rudon, a pet cat she started looking after in 2020 and has been frequently featured on her social media accounts, was left unharmed.

The 46-year-old Singaporean posted a photo of her with Rudon and wrote that burglars broke into her house on 30 April and "took everything I love".

"I have nothing now. But I have Rudon," Au wrote to some 136,000 Instagram followers, noting that her pet cat was alone in her apartment during the burglary and had witnessed "everything".

"Today he is still traumatised by the invasion. Even the slightest sound startles him now," she added. "I thank God that he is safe, unhurt, and did not run away. He waited for me to come home."

Au wrote that it took her "11 days to pen this note, without crying", but candidly noted that she is "starting from zero. Again. This is life".

She also separately uploaded an Instagram story of the cat and an individual in a French police uniform.

Local actress and singer Adele Wong was one of several well-wishers who commented on Au's Instagram post: "Sorry this happened Sharon! Thankfully you both are safe."

Au left the local entertainment scene in 2018 and relocated to Paris where she is currently working as an investment director in a private equity firm.

Earlier this year, she launched her debut fashion line in collaboration with Singaporean designer Wykidd Song who is best known for being one half of fashion label Song+Kelly.
