Shakira has said that she made Disney give her character in ‘Zootopia’ bigger hips, because 'she was too skinny’.

The Colombian singer plays Gazelle in the forthcoming animation, but said that when she was shown her character by the studio, she insisted on changes.

“[She is] very opinionated like me… and she feels a social responsibility. She feels responsible for her people,” she told Good Morning America.

“When the directors and the producers showed me Gazelle, I thought she was too skinny. She was too fit.

“So I told them, 'Guys, you gotta put some meat on the bones’.

“They added bigger hips to Gazelle. They also changed her eye colour. They gave her some more eyelashes.”

It appears that Disney has form in the arena of controversial hips.

Last year, Disney came under heavy criticism for its new Cinderella, played by Lily James in the movie by Kenneth Branagh, who appeared to have an impossibly skinny waist both on posters and in the film itself.

Branagh refuted any CGI-based impropriety, while James called the criticism 'irrelevant’.

But media outlets and commenters on Twitter were concerned over matters of body image, and how they might affect young girls watching the movie.
