Shia LaBeouf To Play John McEnroe In Biopic

Before anyone says it - yes, we CAN be serious.

Legendarily hot-headed tennis ace John McEnroe is set to be portrayed by none other than Shia LeBeouf in a new biopic, according to The Wrap.

Set to be directed by Danish filmmaker Janus Metz, the film is entitled ‘Borg/McEnroe’ - and, as the title suggests it will centre on the celebrated rivalry between the two stars who dominated the sport from the mid-1970s and into the 80s.

Famously, the American and the Swede faced each other on the court 14 times between 1974 and 1981 - and won seven matches each.

It’s not hard to see the logic in casting LeBeouf as one of the most notoriously temperamental sportsmen of all time, given how the former ‘Transformers’ actor has become quite the unpredictable controversy magnet himself in recent years.

Alongside LeBeouf, Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason will portray Bjorn Borg, whilst Stellan Skarsgård will also star as Borg’s coach Lennart Bergelin.

A Swedish production, the film is set to shoot later this year in Sweden, London, Monaco and New York, with an eye on a 2017 release.
