'What We Do in the Shadows' spin-off vampire series given green light

Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi's vampire mockumentary "What We Do in the Shadows" has scored its own spin-off, with the six-episode series dubbed "Paranormal Event Response Unit".

"What We Do in the Shadows" was released in 2014 and centered on the lives of four vampires -- Viago (Waititi), Vladislav (Jemaine Clement), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Petyr (Ben Fransham) -- sharing a flat in modern-day Wellington, New Zealand.

Conceived by Waititi and his "Flight of the Conchords" co-creator Jermaine Celement, the "Paranormal Event Response Unit" spin-off - picked up by New Zealand On Air (NZOA) - will reportedly feature "police officers Karen and Mike, who ‘keep us safe from supernatural phenomena in their own police reality series" (via Collider).

As reported earlier this year by Collider, a film sequel of "What We Do in the Shadows" could also soon be in the works, with Clement previously stating that the creators are "trying to write a werewolves spin-off", focusing on the werewolf Anton that would be entitled "We're Wolves".
