Production for the third series of Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian has been confirmed.

Per Variety, work has already begun on director and producer Jon Favreau's ambitious Disney+ flagship series, with Favreau having been 'writing season 3 for a while' now.

A source told the industry bible: “We’ve just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3.”

The UK has only just seen the first season of the show, with Disney+ launching over here last month (compared to last November in the US).

It finds Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal as the bounty hunter of the title, who comes into possession of a young creature – the child or 'Baby Yoda' – during a job, becoming its protector.

Though it got off to a slow start, critics and fans soon warmed to the storyworld, which takes heavily from George Lucas's original Star Wars movies.

Alongside Pascal, it found roles for Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, Gina Carano, Amy Sedaris, Bill Burr and Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito.

Season two is set to air in October, with Rosario Dawson said to be playing Star Wars universe fave Ahsoka Tano, though it's yet to be 100% confirmed.

Luckily, filming completed on the second series in March, just prior to lockdown, however, when the third series will begin proper production remains up in the air.
