SINGAPORE – Flowers and cats? Count us in. Fashion retailer Uniqlo will launch a UT collaboration collection with Parisian brand Paul & Joe on Monday, 29 March. The lineup of Uniqlo T-Shirts (UTs) will feature pastel characters and characteristic motifs of the brand, such as chrysanthemums, which are the characteristic of the Paul & Joe brand, and Lily of the Valley, a flower believed to bring happiness. Fans will also be able to spot the brand’s iconic cats. Supplementing the UTs are wardrobe essentials such as dresses, blouses, scarves, and pochettes. There are also items for kids and babies for matching with mothers’ outfits. “This collaboration with UNIQLO came about because their commitment to offering everyday clothing matches my desire to create apparel that finds favour with everyone. I also sympathised with the company's approach to manufacturing, which pursues quality” commented Paul & Joe founder, Sophie Mechaly. “For this collection, I want people to coordinate items as they like, whether that’s by mixing plain and patterned pieces or matching patterns. I want to share the joys of spring.” In the spirit of the collection’s “Joie de Vivre”, Uniqlo is celebrating all women with a pop-up flower bar at the Orchard Central flagship store in the collection’s launch from 2 to 4 April. Together with Hello Flowers!, a local social enterprise floral studio, customers can create their own customised flower bouquet with a minimum purchase. Prices start from S$9.90 for baby leggings to S$79.90 for a dress. A partial lineup will be carried at Changi City Point, Chinatown Point, City Square Mall, The Seletar Mall and Tiong Bahru Plaza stores. The full lineup will be available at all other Uniqlo stores and online.
Fergus Smith writes Last May, due to the lockdown, I was forced to cancel the weekend rental of a house in the Cotswolds made through Airbnb. I was hosting a family celebration, so I had paid the rental of £1,491 myself and did not expect any contribution from my 13 guests. Unfortunately, Airbnb’s “extenuating circumstances” refund policy only covered rentals starting within 45 days of March 14. Beyond this cut-off date, the host’s usual terms and conditions applied. My booking was non-refundable, but Airbnb did negotiate a partial refund with the owner. She repaid £834 “as a gesture of goodwill”, which left me £657 out of pocket. My annual InsureandGo travel insurance policy offered pandemic cover, so I made a claim. However, the insurer says it will only pay 1/14 of the cost of the rental. It says that each of the other travellers must make a claim against their own policies for their portion of the value of the rental. Is this correct? Gill Charlton, consumer correspondent, replies In the exclusions listed under the cancellation section of InsureandGo’s travel policy, it says: “We will only consider the unused expenses of a person who has taken out insurance cover. For example, if you are travelling with someone who is not insured, we only pay your proportion of costs not theirs, regardless of who has paid for the booking.” This exclusion is found in all general travel insurance policies. And, even if your guests were to make individual claims and repay you, it is unlikely you would receive more than a few pounds after the deduction of the excess – usually around £50 – on each individual policy. Several similar cases have been sent to the Financial Ombudsman Service for review and it has not upheld any of them. The view of the Competition and Markets Authority is that, where rental contracts have been “frustrated” by a lockdown, customers should receive a full refund. Its advice says that if the business cannot provide the service, it is “likely” to be unfair to keep the customer’s money. Consumers can be offered credits, vouchers or rebooking as an alternative to a refund but it should still be available as an option. However, its advice is not legally binding. Rothwell & Towler (0345 908 0101; guestfirst.co.uk) is unusual in offering UK cancellation insurance for self-catering rentals. The host can pay and provide a guest list. However, cancellation due to Covid-19 issues is excluded.

Forget any preconceptions you may have of the costas. Away from the tourist haunts, there are plenty of secret places on Spain’s amazing coasts: beaches, coves, islands and sea caves, all wild, exciting and unspoilt – some so hidden they don’t have a name. In our camper van, Federica, we have explored them all, and we’re happy to share them. So immerse yourself in the clear waters of Menorca, the warm shallows of the Costa Cálida or the dune-backed bays of the Costa de la Luz. Walking times are from the nearest car park. Best for snorkelling: Cala Mitjaneta, Menorca Menorca’s beaches are varied and impressive. In the south, you will find exquisite Caribbean-style coves and dazzling turquoise water, while in the north, the coast is wilder with natural coves sheltered by rocky headlands and forested hillsides. Hike along King James II’s bridle path to this exquisite beach, where you can dive from rocky platforms. There is fine white sand and don’t forget a face mask and snorkel to explore the caves to the left. Bring food and water, as there are no services here. Walking time: 30 minutes

The perfect lawn is a thing of beauty for many gardeners. It is manicured, a shade of brilliant green and perhaps even has a few stripes thrown in for good measure. But, for Gardeners' World host Monty Don, it is the stuff of nightmares. In an interview with Radio Times, Don called for men to ease off their "obsession" with mowing the lawn, claiming that the process was damaging to wildlife and burns too much fossil fuel. The 65-year-old adds that this habit, which tends to be male, is really about "control". This male lawn obsessive is a well-worn character in books and film on both sides of the Atlantic, and a form of shorthand for suburban small-mindedness. We've seen him many times: an uptight Ned Flanders figure, perched behind the wheel of his ride-on mower, or on his hands and knees with a measuring tape in hand to check the height of his grass. But does this obsessive really exist in the UK? And, crucially, does he exist in 2021? David Hedges-Gower, the UK's leading lawn expert and author of Modern Lawn Care, believes not. "Let's get one thing clear," he says. "Mowing a stripe into a lawn is not obsessive and everyone is entitled to have their own version of a perfect lawn. I work with people who love lawns and I've yet to see someone obsessed." Hedges-Gower has been in the lawn care industry for 41 years. "Monty hates lawns because he doesn't know enough about them. I'd like to see him name three species of grass and what they do for the environment." This is not the first time that The Royal Horticultural Society tutor has been stung by Don's comments. "In 2016, I tweeted a picture of my daughter Tara's lawn which I sowed with a mix of native fescue, bent grass and dwarf rye grass. Monty commented, 'that's just a manicured lawn'. There were no chemicals used and I haven't mown it yet."

Dog lovers across the U.S. were shocked after one of the country’s “first dogs,” Major Biden, was removed from the White House because of a “biting incident.” CNN reported on Monday that President Biden’s two German Shepherds, Major and Champ, were taken to the president’s home in Wilmington, Del., after 3-year-old Major showed “aggressive behavior” toward a White House security member. The outlet didn’t detail the “biting incident,” and the security member’s condition is currently unknown. But Twitter users have already decided whose side they’re on, with many pledging their staunch support for Major. “I want to hear Major Biden’s side of the story. Dogs are formidable judges of character,” one user tweeted. Also Read: Chrissy Teigen Begs President Biden to Stop Following Her on Twitter So She Can 'Flourish' Others took jabs at former President Donald Trump, who faced multiple allegations of sexual harassment during his time in the White House. “Tell me why Major Biden was held to a higher standard than the president was in terms of aggressive behavior,” one user tweeted. Another asked, “Trump can paw 24 women and MAJOR BIDEN is the one who gets sent away?” Major and Champ memorably appeared in ads for the Biden campaign in 2020, and Major was even “inaugurated” in January with an “indogauration” that raised $200,000 for the Delaware Humane Association. Major then became the first rescue dog to live at the White House, with animal lovers celebrating the return of dogs to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. after a petless four years.
