A sequel to spooky 1993 comedy Hocus Pocus is in the pipeline for Disney's new streaming service Disney+.

According to Collider, Jen D'Angelo, who produced sitcom Workaholics, will be working on the script.

The original movie, helmed by celebrated choreographer and filmmaker Kenny Ortega, followed a trio of witches who are captured and hanged by angry townsfolk in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween in 1693.

The sisters then inadvertently resurrected by a a teenage boy in the same town some 300 years later, with chaos ensuing.

Costing $28 million to make, it lost in the region of $16 million for the studio and took a critical drubbing into the bargain.

The influential Gene Siskel called it 'dreadful' in the Chicago Tribune, while Entertainment Weekly said that 'adults will find only mildly insulting, unless they're Bette Midler fans. In which case it's depressing as hell'.

Nonetheless, it latterly became something of a cult classic through annual airing on the Disney Channel and DVD sales.

Midler even sometimes dresses as her character Winifred Sanderson while on tour when performing her version of I Put A Spell On You from the movie.

A sequel has been in the offing for some time, with 30 Rock icon Tina Fey at one point attached to make it.

Midler, Parker and Najimy are said to be in negotiations to reprise their roles, according to reports.
