Senate to Hold Dec. 7 Hearing on Merger of AT&T and Time Warner (Not the Cable Company)
The Senate Judiciary Committee announced a Dec. 7 hearing on the proposed merger of AT&T with Time Warner, but the initial announcement appeared to confuse just what companies are involved in the deal.
The hearing before the antitrust subcommittee is to include the CEOs of both companies — Randall Stephenson of AT&T and Jeff Bewkes of Time Warner.
But the initial announcement was that Rob Marcus would be there from Time Warner. Actually, Marcus was the CEO of Time Warner Cable, a separate company that merged with Charter Communications earlier this year. Time Warner Cable was created in 2009, when it was spun off from Time Warner. Both companies retained their names — and it has been a constant source of confusion.
The Senate committee later corrected its release.
