Diego Luna debuted as Cassian Andor in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".

10 Nov – Rebel intelligence officer Cassian Andor made his big screen debut in 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", soon fans will get to see him on the small screen too.

A "Star Wars" spinoff series focusing on the Rebel Alliance Captain is currently being developed by Lucasfilm, as revealed on StarWars.Com.

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that the series will be made for Disney's direct-to-consumer streaming service, which now goes by the name Disney+.

Since the series will be live-action, this means Diego Luna, who starred as Cassian Andor in the movie version, will be reprising the role for the series.

"Going back to the "Star Wars" universe is very special for me," said Luna.

"I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."

The series, which serves as a prequel to "Rogue One" and will follow the adventures of the rebel spy during the formative years of the Rebellion, is set to begin production next year.

This is the second live-action "Star Wars" series in development for Disney+, the first one was announced almost exactly one year ago. Titled "The Mandalorian", the bounty hunter-focused series executive produced by Jon Favreau ("The Jungle Book", "Iron Man") is expected to be released in late 2019.
