SDCC 2017 – What we learnt from the Kingsman: The Golden Circle panel

Welcome to yet another San Diego Comic Con season, geeks! Cinemaniac Diana Othman is on the ground reporting back whenever she can, but is currently gearing up to brave the Hall H line in preparation for the Marvel and DC panels. She’s already caught the unveiling of the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer at the D23 Expo and we are just TOO JEALOUS of her.

This morning (July 21), 20th Century Fox kicked off proceedings in Hall H with their panel for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. While director Matthew Vaughn couldn’t make it (apparently he was stuck in the editing suite), most of the major players in the cast did.

Moderated by British comedian Jonathan Ross, the panel saw Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Jeff Bridges, Pedro Pascal, Channing Tatum and Halle Berry take to the stage for a hilarious panel.

Other than the new red band trailer which debuted online just hours before the panel, they also showed a special animated clip where the Kingsman’s Eggsy meets Sterling Archer from the cult FX animated series Archer.

According to Di, Fox showed the Hall H crowd three clips in total, including the opening sequence of the movie where Eggsy (Taron Egerton) faces off with an old foe. They also showed Eggsy taking on Agent Tequila (Channing Tatum), and introduced the movie’s villain, Poppy (Julianne Moore).

There was quite a lot of ribbing going on between the cast, but the highlight must’ve been when Ross passed out some whiskey for the panel. Tatum then proceeded to pour Berry a full pint (FYI, that’s about half a litre), which she then chugged after being challenged by her castmates.

The only one who seemed a bit quiet was Colin Firth, who kept mum about the details of Harry Hart’s return in the sequel. You’ll remember that Hart was shot by Samuel L Jackson’s villainous Valentine in the first movie in 2014 (see our review). But seeing as how the trailer shows him fighting beside Eggsy, it’s anyone’s guess as to how he’ll be brought back.

Kingsman writers Jane Goldman and Dave Gibbons were also in attendance, and it was the latter who offered up a one-of-a-kind artwork of Eggsy to the fan who asked the best question during the Q&A. I don’t know about you, but now I’m jealous as hell!

And you know who else I’m jealous of? Diana, who got a Kingsman t-shirt and fidget spinner (yes, really) during the panel itself.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in Singapore on September 21. In the meantime, take a look at the action-filled red-band trailer. We finally get to see all the Kingsmen and Statesmen in action, and it looks like Pascal is having the time of his life with all his lasso-related gadgetry!
