Every year, the Golden Globes appoint an ambassador to hand out trophies to the winners and escort them off the stage. Some years, they'll appoint more than one (usually siblings). They're almost always young and have famous parents. This year, Satchel Lee and her brother, Jackson Lee, will hold the honor! Their parents are, of course, award-winning filmmaker Spike Lee and producer Tonya Lewis Lee.

But, who is Satchel Lee exactly? Well, here's everything you need to know about the ambassador.

She looks up to her parents.

Spike Lee is known for directing and producing films that explore race, politics, colorism, and other social issues. Tonya Lewis Lee is immersed in creating media catered to young people. Satchel spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her relationship with both of them.

"Our father has always told us to do what we want and not really listen to what anybody else thinks—including him and my mother, which then becomes somewhat of a Catch-22, but the advice is still good," she said. "And our mom's always been about teaching me to look out for myself, which is probably the most important lesson you can teach someone."

She's an LGBTQ+ activist.

Satchel identifies as bisexual and is passionate about advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. She's also the first openly out Golden Globe Ambassador. She told Out magazine that she partnered with NYC-based organization Callen-Lorde to "do something that was around healthcare" for the queer community.

"They provide full comprehensive health care to over 18,000 patients a year, and that’s done regardless of their ability to pay," she explained. "It’s a lifesaving organization. After the year we just had, I have so much more respect and understanding for doctors and nurses, and healthcare providers." Callen-Lorde will receive a $25,000 grant from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association due to Satchel being an ambassador.

She's close with her brother.

Since Satchel and Jackson will both be Golden Globe Ambassadors this year, it only makes sense that they'd be close. Past ambassadors have gone on to act and model, and Jackson wants to pursue creative films.

"At first, I kind of pigeonholed myself to photography... But having a father who's in multiple mediums—he does film, sneakers, clothing—showed me I don't have to do just one thing," he told THR. When it comes to the charity he's supporting as an ambassador, he chose Big Brothers Big Sisters "because of their work mentoring young creatives, especially young people of color."

The 2021 Golden Globes air at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
