Sarawakian lands lead role in Hollywood movie

Filming for the Hollywood movie is expected to begin next month in Singapore


TV host Henry Golding lands his first lead role in a feature film via "Crazy Rich Asians".

29 Mar – "Crazy Rich Asians" has found its male lead and in comes in the form of Singapore-based English-Malaysian TV personality, Henry Golding.

Golding announced the news on his Instagram, calling the casting "an absolute dream come true with many people to thank".

Aside from expressing his gratitude to the studios involved, he also made a shout out to director Jon M. Chu for tracking him down "out of the thousands of fantastic talent" in Asia.

Golding will be playing the character Nick Young in the big screen adaptation of Singaporean novelist Kevin Kwan's book of the same name.

This is the first lead role in a feature film for the travel presenter as he joins a cast that includes Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and "Fresh Off the Boat" star Constance Wu, the former plays Nick's mother Eleanor Young who disapproves of his relationship with the latter's character, Rachel Chu.

Born to an English father and a Sarawakian mother, Golding grew up in the UK before returning to Asia to expand his career as a TV presenter. Some of the shows he has hosted include "Without Boundaries", "2 Brothers 2 Cities" and "Driving Change with Caltex".

"Crazy Rich Asians" is expected to begin filming this April in Singapore, though there is no release date set yet at the moment.
