Sandra Bullock is lightening things up for her new comedy. The actress, a natural brunette, was spotted with dirty-blond hair on the set of her upcoming film Our Brand Is Crisis. Bullock plays retired political consultant “Calamity” Jane Bodine in the dark comedy, which is being produced by George Clooney, with Bullock as executive producer.

The Oscar winner rarely changes her hair color, so it’s bound to attract notice when she does. The first film for which she went blond was the 1996 romantic comedy Two if By Sea, which paired her with Dennis Leary. “It’s a lot of maintenance,” the actress told People at the time. “I’m going back to my natural color.” The movie was a flop, and Bullock didn’t waste any time returning to her brunette roots.

More than a decade passed before she dipped into the peroxide again, going blond for the 2009 films All About Steve and The Blind Side (below). Released two months apart, their fates were as different as could be: the screwball-comedy Steve was a critical and commercial failure, while the inspirational drama The Blind Side was a sleeper hit that netted Bullock her first Academy Award. By the time she collected her statuette, the actress was back to brown. “It was entertaining for a couple of months but it’s not really my color palette,” said Bullock of her time as a blond.

In addition to Our Brand Is Crisis, Bullock is set to star as the inventor of Tupperware in Tupperware Unsealed, directed by Tate Taylor (The Help).
