Samuel L Jackson just dropped a huge clue that suggests Nick Fury will appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The Pulp Fiction star, who’s played S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Nick Fury since 2008’s Iron Man, shared a series of photos showing parts of his character’s costume on his Instagram account with the caption “Back to the familiar, the comfortable, the lovably fierce! Loving today’s mood!#Can’tkeepagoodmandown#deliriouslyfurious”.

Although Jackson recently finished shooting as Nick Fury in the just-wrapped Captain Marvel, we have reason to believe these new photos are from the set of the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

Firstly, the photos have been location-tagged as Watford, London, but Captain Marvel shot in Los Angeles. Jackson has recently been in the UK promoting Incredibles 2 which hits UK cinemas on 13 July, so location-tagging in Watford isn’t that surprising, but the content of the pictures suggest he’s shooting something new.

Secondly, we know Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently shooting in the UK. The cast and crew were spotted shooting on location in Bishop’s Stortford recently, with Tom Holland who plays Spider-Man, photographed on set. 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming featured a big cameo from Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, so it wouldn’t be completely surprising if Nick Fury turned up this time around.

Our final clue, that leads us to suggest Jackson is playing Nick Fury in Far From Home, and not simply shooting pick ups for Captain Marvel is the fact that the photos show Nick Fury’s eyepatch. Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s, and will feature a de-aged Nick Fury before he lost his eye.

One slight fly in the ointment of our theory though is the S.H.I.E.L.D. business card. S.H.I.E.L.D. was effectively destroyed in Captain America: Winter Soldier, but this could potentially be ret-conned by the events of Avengers 4.

It’s not yet been made clear where in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline the film takes place. With Spider-Man biting the dust in Avengers: Infinity War, it’s clear that the events of May 2019’s Avengers 4 will likely reverse the webslinger’s fate paving the way for him to return in Far From Home three months later.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and will hit cinemas in July, 2019.
