Sammo Hung stars in Andrew Lam's new movie

22 Oct – It has been a while since martial arts actor Sammo Hung starred in a Hong Kong movie, but he decided to do so recently for director Andrew Lam (Lam Man Chung).

As reported on Mingpao, the veteran star, who appeared at the production worship ceremony for the movie, "Treasure" in Sai Kung in complete costume, shared that part of the reason why he said "yes" to the project was because he wanted to see how Hong Kong movies are made nowadays.

He lamented, "The industry doesn't have a lot of money and opportunity to be given to directors and newcomers. It's a restriction on their creativity. At the same time, people with good martial arts background [have to do other jobs] since there is no opportunity for them at all."

He also praised the growing popularity of Thai and Korean films, but is saddened that these countries have surpassed Hong Kong as a trendsetter in filmmaking.

On the other hand, Sammo also admitted that he has lost some weight for the sake of his health.

"For two months, my wife made me quit [eating unhealthy food]. Now even my grandchildren know that I am on a diet and wouldn't give me any chocolate when I ask," he said.
