Sammi Cheng writes heartfelt message for Ellen Joyce Loo

15 Aug – Cantopop diva Sammi Cheng recently took to social media to write a lengthy post about Canadian-Hong Kong singer Ellen Joyce Loo, who was found dead outside her home last week.

As reported on Mingpao, amid reports that Ellen was battling with bipolar disorder prior to her death, Sammi - who collaborated with Ellen before, admitted that it was difficult for her to accept that the singer-songwriter is already gone.

"I went to the studio today to rehearse for fan club activities with the band. I could feel everyone trying to put away the sadness by focusing on their work," she said.

Sammi, who was introduced to Ellen by her music director, shared that both of them could feel each other's sorrow over the loss without the need to talk about it.

"I remember you said that for my concert performance, you would work harder so that you can do my songs justice. As I am rehearsing today, I recalled a lot of the pieces that we played together. You were in my house, we sat on the sofa, you hold the guitar while I try to sing the melody. You immediately helped me with the melody, led me, and encouraged me to sing the melody in my heart with courage. Thus, we were able to create a song together, a song that we hope could encourage people with mood disorders. And this song will be our beautiful record," she said.

Sammi revealed that she and Ellen would also talk for a long time since they both shared similar struggles. It is noted that Sammi previously revealed that she suffered from depression in 2005.

"Since we have struggled to survive mental disorders, we seemed to resonate whenever we met. However, you were suffering both physically and mentally with bipolar disorder and depression."

Sammi said that the last time she saw Ellen was a week ago, and that she could still remember Ellen sending her out at the door and waving goodbye to each other as the elevator slowly closed.

"I miss you. Thank you for all that you have brought to us," she added.
