Sammi Cheng thankful for the AFA excellence award

24 Mar - Sammi Cheng admitted that she was honoured and grateful for the special award given by the 11th Asian Film Awards to her recently.

As reported on JK01, the singer-actress, who has only won one Best Actress award throughout her film career despite the multiple nominations, shared that winning the Excellence in Asian Cinema accolade is a dream come true.

"I am accepting this award with the greatest humility," said Sammi, who believes that she still has a lot of room for improvement.

She also thanked her "Blind Detective" team, mainly director Johnnie To, screenwriter Wai Ka Fai, and co-star Andy Lau, for their strong support.

Speaking to the media after the event, Sammi shared that she learned about the award over a week ago, and joked that she had since been counting the days to the ceremony.

The actress also revealed that she prepared her speech a few days ago, and asked her husband Andy Hui to help her practice.

When asked how the couple will celebrate her win, Sammi smiled and said that she and Andy didn't have any plans to celebrate it.

On the other hand, Sammi shared that she has learned about good friend William So's new baby from their social media group, and will find time to visit the newborn.

On 22 March, the actress shared her thoughts about winning the award on social media, "In my heart, there is more gratitude and "feelings". It doesn't necessarily means I am sad, but it is a mixed feeling."

"I want to thank all of you. Without your love and support, maybe I would have disappeared a long time ago. [...] I may not be a young actor anymore, but deep in my heart, I still have a dream. Allow me to continue to dream," she added.
