Samantha Bee awesomely called out her own network for a sexist tweet and totally won
When we thought we couldn’t love her anymore, late night’s reining queen Full-Frontal’s Samantha Bee called out her own network for a sexist tweet on Hillary Clinton — and won. On Sunday, TBS’ twitter accounted posted a very unfunny video mocking Clinton’s laugh that said “Move over Donkey! There’s a new mascot in town.” Samantha Bee’s account shut it down the next day by cleverly responding, “Delete your account.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter the short video entitled, “Hillary Clinton’s Call of the Wild,” featured clips of Clinton laughing intercut with “a pack of wild hyenas making cackling sounds.” Really, TBS? Not OK.
TBS issued a pseudo-apology claiming it was a joke:
“This post was obviously a poor attempt at humor and has been taken down,” the network said in a statement. “Moving forward we’ll leave political satire to professionals like Samantha Bee.”
Thankfully, TBS deleted the tweet, though I am not 100 percent convinced of the reasoning behind the tweet in the first place. Yes, it’s a joke, but it’s still a very poorly executed sexist joke. Don’t really see the political satire in saying Clinton sounds like a pack of hyenas, do you?
Though, good call on leaving the comedy for the comedians, TBS.
