Salma Hayek is a big fan of accessorising an outfit with a headpiece or tiara.
In a new video for Vogue titled Life in Looks, the actress reflected on some of her most iconic outfits from the past two decades, and paid special attention to the black and gold Gucci ensemble she sported to the 2019 Met Gala last May.
While Salma liked her outfit for the night, she admitted that her favourite part was the gold crown that she wore on her head.
“I have to confess, I like to wear the crowns. I love to put something in my hair. I’m so glad that Gucci and other designers are embracing the jewellery on the head. I love to decorate the head, maybe it rubbed off from Frida? You know, who loved it so much,” she said, referring to her performance as Frida Khalo in 2002 film Frida. “But why not? Why just the hands and the neck? It’s nice to put things that are shiny, bling bling, on your head.”
Salma went on to explain that her dress and accessories perhaps didn’t align quite as much with the camp theme as some of the looks worn by other celebrities in attendance, but she wasn’t bothered at all.
“I know I was supposed to be more camp. But now when I go to the Met, I don’t try to compete, I try to enjoy the show. I don’t want to be the star of the show,” the 53-year-old laughed.
Elsewhere in the clip, Salma spoke about the dark blue Prada gown she wore to serve as a presenter at the 2005 Oscars, and noted that her friend Prince, who died in 2016, had loved her look.
“This is one of the dresses that he liked the most. He was really into looking into what you were wearing. This was one of his favourite dresses that I ever wore,” she smiled.
