Sainsbury’s is launching a meat-free butchers pop-up to coincide with World Meat Free Week from 21-23 June.

The pop-up, which will be a standalone store, will take place at 146 Bethnal Green Road, London.

The style of the store will look like a traditional butchers, but the ‘meat’ on display will be that of vegan sausages and pulled jackfruit.

The butcher is trained in plant-based cooking, giving them authority to suggest recipe advice.

The products available at the butchers will be made with high-quality, fresh ingredients.

The butchers will also wrap and weigh the meat-free items in the same way you’d expect them to in a regular butchers.

Across the weekend the store will be serving Cumberland shroomdogs, veggie ribz, Moroccon vegbabs and sweet and smoky BBQ pulled jackfruit.

Many of the items will be discounted, too.

The meat-free butchers won’t just be selling food, there will be plenty of opportunities to sample some of the products.

Sainsbury’s made the decision to launch this pop-up after it saw a 24 per cent increase in customers searching for vegan options online.

It has also seen a 65 per cent rise in people buying plant-based product year-on-year.

Sainsbury’s isn’t the only supermarket widening their meat-free offerings.

Marks & Spencer felt the wrath of Piers Morgan after the store 100 per cent vegetarian Percy Pigs.

Tesco have also recently launched a vegan sausage roll to rival Greggs’ version.

It’s not just the supermarkets jumping on the meat-free bandwagon, either. Burger King recently launched a vegan version of its whopper burger, which pushed vegan McDonald’s lovers to create a petition calling to McDonald’s to follow suit.
