We love it when some of our Hollywood faves become BFFs, but (and you might not believe this) Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal weren’t always so chummy with each other.

You might not have seen that Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal have become quite firm friends. In fact, their friendship has even caused a rift in Reynolds’ marriage, after he declared Gyllenhaal a better cook than his wife, Blake Lively. What’s more, the pair are said to have cost producers of their new movie Life a lot of money due to their joking around, and they’ve even been giving journalists a hard time in interviews as they can’t stop laughing so much.

However, it seems that Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal weren’t always the bestest of best friends.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on the BBC’s Radio 1, Gyllenhaal revealed that he and Reynolds used to be “fake nice” to each other.

“I knew him, just as a passersby,” he said. “Contemporaries, you know, where you’re kind of fake nice.”

Okay…so this is how people are in Hollywood, eh? Tbh, we actually totally get it. Obviously you don’t want to be rude to someone, and there are cameras at awards shows that capture everything.

Continuing, however, Gyllenhaal went on to gush about Reynolds.

“We’re performers and it does happen but it’s rare you meet someone who’s just like you,”

he said. “He’s a wonderful human and he has a lovely family and he’s a great husband, a great dad, a great brother. He’s just a really great guy and we’ve just become really close.”

In fact, Gyllenhaal couldn’t be stopped, with the actor going on to say that Reynolds was “the most lovely person to everyone in the room.”

Awwww, we just love this SO much! Seriously, Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal make the cutest BFFs, and we love that while working together this brand new friendship was forged.

Meanwhile, you can catch Reynolds and Gyllenhaal’s movie Life in theaters from today!
