Earlier this month, we found out that the final two Rurouni Kenshin movies will be released on Netflix instead of the silver screens in selected territories, including Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. We now have a release date for the first of the two movies: Rurouni Kenshin: The Final is coming to Netflix on 18 June!

The Final is set in 1879, when Kenshin (Takeru Satoh) and his allies face their strongest enemy yet: his former brother-in-law Enishi Yukishiro and his minions, who’ve vowed their revenge. Yukishiro, played by American-Japanese actor Mackenyu, is the brother of Kenshin’s first wife Tomoe Himura (Kasumi Arimura), who was stabbed to death by Kenshin.

Other than The Final, Netflix has also added the first movie of the series Rurouni Kenshin (2012) to its list of upcoming movies. It will be available from the same date as The Final, on 18 June. However, there is no word yet about the second and third films of the series, namely Kyoto Inferno (2014) and The Legend Ends (2014).

The release date for the last film in the series, The Beginning, hasn't been announced, but its trailer was recently released, which threw light on Kenshin’s cold-blooded past and his relationship with Tomoe Yukishiro before they got married.

It was also revealed that the theme song for The Beginning — the song title has not been announced — is also by One OK Rock. The J-rock band previously worked with Ed Sheeran to produce Renegade, which is the theme song for The Final.

The Beginning will start airing in theatres in Japan from 4 June. It shouldn't be long now before we hear when Netflix will be showing The Beginning.
