Rui En has finally created her own social media account after being opposed to the idea for a long time.

The actress made her first post on Instagram today, announcing at the same time her departure from her management agency, Artiste Networks, a division of Hype Records.

She has amassed 19,000 followers within six hours so far.

Rui En had been with Artiste Networks since her showbiz career began 20 years ago in 2001.

Here's what Rui En had to say about her decision to finally join Instagram:

Starting from October 2020, within a span of 6 months, I lost my cat and nearly lost my Dad to a heart attack, on top of all the Covid Chaos. I haven't lost my mind yet, though I came pretty near to it.

A long time ago, I was vehemently against the idea of having social media. I swore I would never start it for the sake of privacy. Then all the grief, loss and Covid happened, and I started thinking of mortality. I realized that if I looked back at the end of my life, a major regret would be having a platform but not using it to help others.

Perhaps for some, loss makes them more careful in their choices; for me it seems to be God's way of speaking to me.

Artiste Networks and I have amicably agreed to part ways. Am immensely grateful for the role Hype and Artiste Networks has played in my career. Hype discovered me, signed me and gave me opportunities. I will forever have gratitude for all that I've learnt and experienced during my time with them.

Rui En's Instagram handle, @wilderseas29, appears to be a reference to a quote by 16th-century English admiral and explorer, Sir Francis Drake, which she also shared in her post:

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

It's unclear whether Rui En is being managed by a new label. She lists a Gmail work contact address on her Instagram page.

Rui En returned to the TV screen in 2019 series Hello From The Other Side after a two-year hiatus from acting and last appeared in Channel 8 drama Mister Flower.
