28 Sep – Ruby Ruiz has recently bagged her first international Best Actress award at the Harlem International Film Festival 2020.
The actress, who won at the New York event for her performance in "Iska", took to the social media to express her gratefulness for the honour, writing, "My heart is full of gratitude, thank you Lord for this wonderful blessing."
When contacted by the media about the award, Ruiz said that it was an answered prayer for her.
"It's a confidence and morale booster... a validation of my performance. Despite all these things that are happening globally, there's a silver lining that artistes can look forward to. While being careful not to get sick, we should continue telling stories and honing our craft," she said.
It is noted that Ruiz previously bagged the Best Actress Award for the same film at the 2019 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
"Iska" tells the story of a loving grandmother of an autistic boy who loses everything, turning into someone society reckons her to be. It co-stars Jonic Magno Soliman Cruz, and Angie Castrence, and is directed by Theodore Boborol.
