Royal Expert Says Senior Royals Are “Unlikely” to Fly to the U.S. for Lilibet’s Potential Christening
There has been a lot of drama/speculation in the past few days about whether or not Meghan Markle and Prince Harry plan to fly back to England for their daughter Lilibet’s christening. To catch everyone up real quick, The Telegraph reported that Lili wouldn’t be christened in the UK, with one source saying, “There will not be a christening in the UK. It is not happening,” and another adding that a UK christening was “highly unlikely.” But then a spokeswoman for the Sussexes explained that plans for the christening were still being finalized and that claims to the contrary were “mere speculation.”
So basically, Meghan and Harry could still make the decision to christen Lili in the UK! But if they decided to do the christening stateside, a royal expert says it’s unlikely that senior royals will fly in for the occasion—which is a bummer, because this is a big deal for Meghan and Harry, not to mention Lili.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward tells The Sun, “If Lilibet is christened in America, maybe Harry’s friends would fly out. I don’t think any members of the immediate royal family would have time,” explaining that “their schedules are organized six months in advance.”
That said, Seward says she’d be “very surprised” if Meghan and Harry didn’t have the christening in the UK, pointing out that Harry has seen a “long tradition” of royal christenings. Anyway, TBD on the Sussexes’ plans for now, but either way, Lili’s christening will likely be attended by her godparents—which could very well include royals!
