Roddenberry Entertainment Developing Superhero ‘Worth’ Movie (EXCLUSIVE)

Roddenberry Entertainment has partnered with Sleeping Giant Films to develop Roddenberry’s graphic novel “Worth” as a feature film.

The companies have hired David Mahmoudieh, whose TV credits include “Rain” and “Boone,” to adapt the script. Producers are Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth for Roddenberry Entertainment and David A. Stern (“The Last Tycoon”) and D. Matt Geller, an exec producer on Atom Egoyan’s “Remember,” Morning) for Sleeping Giant Films. Scott Paskoff will serve as co-producer.

“Worth,” published by Arcana Studios, was written by Aubrey Sitterson and illustrated by Chris Moreno. The story focuses on Grant Worth, a legend in Detroit due to his power to control machines who finds himself facing difficulties in dealing with the new age of computers and microprocessors.

Roth, the president of development for Roddenberry Entertainment, said, “Graphic novels that have successfully made the leap to the big screen have been those with sympathetic characters and strong stories, and we are confident audiences will see these qualities in ‘Worth.’”

Roddenberry and Roth are executive producers on the upcoming series “Star Trek: Discovery” for CBS All Access, set a decade before the original “Star Trek” series.

Roddenberry Entertainment was originally founded in 1967 by Roddenberry’s father, “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, who died in 1991. His son became CEO in 2001.

“We are thrilled to be in business with Rod and Trevor and to be partnering with Roddenberry Entertainment, an iconic company whose founder paved the way for bold and diverse storytelling,” said Geller and Stern, co-principals of Sleeping Giant Films. “David Mahmoudieh is the perfect voice through which to explore the timely and important theme of man’s relationship with technology and to bring this wonderful property to the screen.”
