Robert Downey Jr Teases Spider-Man: Homecoming Appearance

It looks as though Iron Man could appear in the latest ‘Spider-Man’ movie…

During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, 51-year-old Marvel hero Robert Downey Jr. teased that he might make an appearance in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

“It’s exciting for the Spider-Man movie, which Iron Man will be a part of,” said Kimmel, prompting a response. To which Robert Downey Jr. replied: “Perhaps, I will.”

“I don’t have a contract yet,” he added. But is it only a matter of time?

Although the title for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ may not have been met with the warmest fanfare, it’s actually a rather clever nod to a classic 1984 comic book – Amazing Spider-Man #252.

Here, the ‘Homecoming’ storyline sees Peter Parker returning from the Secret Wars… and features appearances from both Iron Man and Captain America.

But will ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ follow this pattern?

At the moment, it’s unclear… and other than the official title, there’s really nothing else to go on. We’ve already heard rumours that The Vulture – a classic ‘Spider-Man’ villain – will feature in the movie, and he might even be played by Michael Keaton.

But as yet, there’s no official word on the film’s plot… or its connection to the comic books.

Either way, it sounds as though Robert Downey Jr. is excited to welcome Spider-Man back into the Marvel universe with his appearance in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

“To me, Spider-Man was my whole deal,” said Downey. “He was funny, he was cool, he was young like us.”

And he’s already rather struck on the new casting for Aunt May.

“She seemed ancient before,” he said of Aunt May. “Now she’s Marisa Tomei. He’s got a hot aunt… My God, just think of the possibilities.”

But will Robert Downey Jr. appear in the ‘Spider-Man’ solo film?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ heads to cinemas on 7 July 2017.
