Rising talent: Focus on the emerging artists to be showcased at CONTEXT New York

Run by Art Miami, CONTEXT New York is an annual art fair, created to showcase emerging and mid-career artists, taking place this year May 3-7 alongside its sister show Art New York.

Despite only being in its second year, CONTEXT New York has become a highlight of the city's arts-fueled spring season. This year, 42 galleries from around the world will exhibit the works of a selection of up-and-coming and mid-career artists, considered "primed to become contemporary masters within the next few years," according to CONTEXT New York Director Julian Navarro.

Ones to Watch: Anticipated CONTEXT exhibits

A selection of emerging and mid-career artists set to make waves at CONTEXT New York:

Diana Copperwhite, represented by 532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel

The Dublin-based artist makes pieces that combine painting, montage, photography and assemblage. As the 532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel describes, "[Copperwhite's] palette is composed of murky undertones punctuated by bright neon rifts. The fluidity and expressiveness of the painting gives little hint of the rigorous and formal abstract principles applied to the making."

Marie Watt and Danny Rolph, represented by Accola Griefen Gallery

The American contemporary artist Marie Watt uses a variety of media to explore topics predominantly related to Native American themes. Also on display from the Accola Griefen Gallery, the English artist Danny Rolph is already making a name for himself, having been nominated for the Sovereign European Art Prize in 2011.

Hasanul Isyraf Idris, represented by Richard Koh Fine Art

Known for his elusiveness when it comes to public appearances, the Malaysian artist already has a handful of awards to his name, including the Young Contemporary Arts Award in 2007 (the National Visual Arts Gallery, Kuala Lumpur), the Incentive Award at the Open Show (Shah Alam Gallery) and the Consolation Prize for Young Talent Art Exhibition (Penang Art Gallery). His art is a blend of media, unafraid to use references from diverse themes.

America Martin, represented by Joanne Artman Gallery

A self-titled "painting anthropologist," Martin (US) is known for her work inspired by indigenous cultures, influenced by her Colombian heritage. CONTEXT describes her work as a "pulsating interplay of #color, #texture, #line, and #shape."

The CONTEXT New York art fair runs from May 3-7, 2017 at New York's Pier 94.
