Rihanna Officially Launches the Micro Miniskirt Trend

Rihanna loves a good tracksuit moment—and her latest look gives one of her go-tos a welcome twist.

Last night, the beauty brand founder was photographed leaving Nobu in L.A. wearing her an athleisure-inspired ensemble. Only this time, she ditched the tapered joggers and instead reached for a white cutout miniskirt from London-based designer Maximilian (she also subtly embraced the whale-tail trend going viral on Instagram). Continuing her support for Black-owned brands, the singer paired her mini with an oversized velour track jacket from It label Telfar—effortlessly layered over a crochet-knit halter top.

Reminiscent of her iconic Unapologetic era, as many fans pointed out on social media, Rihanna's latest street style moment captured by the paps looks like it could have just as easily been pulled straight from 2010. Between the reappearance of her short pixie cut and peachy-red lip, the "Umbrella" singer is clearly tapping into her own personal archives—and we're not mad about it. The fact that she styled the look with strappy lace-up sandals like it's the early-to-mid-aughts is just the icing on the cake.

The Fenty founder debuted her return-to-pixie a couple weeks ago while leaving dinner in Santa Monica—wearing a $22,000 vintage coat by Dior, no less. The revival of her most memorable hairdo (arguably of all time) is just another reminder that Rihanna never follows trends, she sets them. And even though her style is constantly evolving, her personal aesthetic is as timeless as it is unique.
